Patricia Ruth Batchelor

On October 14, 2023, Patricia Ruth Uptain Batchelor passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. Patricia and her family moved to Arab in the early 90s and had since made this her home and location of so many cherished memories. Patricia had an undying love for her family, her friends and her church. She was always known for her gracious and selfless approach towards life. She loved nothing more than sharing her love of life and her love of her family. Family vacations and visiting her family, both immediate and extended, filled her heart and her time. Always a loving mother, grandmother and sister, Patricia, more affectionately known as Ms. Trish to the local community, spent over 20 years working at Gilliam Springs Child Development Center doing what she loved most – sharing God’s love as a preschool teacher. She worked tirelessly towards being a great example and teacher to many generations of Arab’s local youth. Patricia loved her family and is survived by her son, Jason Batchelor his wife PJ, and her daughter Megan Freeman and husband Philip. Patricia was the loving grandmother of 6 amazing grandchildren Zachary Wright (26), Caila Batchelor (19), Jacob Batchelor (14), Bennett Freeman (12), Hudson Freeman (8), and Davis Freeman (6). Patricia, born November 26th, 1953 was a graduate of Crossville High School was the oldest of four children from the late Billy and Stella Ruth Uptain and is survived by her brother David Uptain and wife Sandi, Lorrie Hovsapian and husband Rob, and Paul Uptain and wife Tessa. The best mom, an amazing grandmother, a favorite aunt, a fearless leader that led her life by example. Her memories and her presence will be passed on by many. A visitation to honor Patricia’s life will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Alabama. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Chapel. Brother Jamey Pruett will be officiating. Pallbearers escorting Patricia to her final resting place in Dekalb Memorial Gardens, in the Geraldine community of Dekalb County, will be Shane Fricks, Jeff Williams, Zachary Wright, Ethan Hovsapian, Philip Freeman and Evan Diamond.
