Mrs. Edith Marie West Ledbetter

Edith Marie West Ledbetter, age 85, of the Lacey’s Spring community of Morgan County, Alabama left this earthly home on the morning of June 28, 2024. Edith was born July 23, 1938 in Morgan County, daughter of William Owen West and Edna Olene Lang West. She and husband, Charles Wayne Ledbetter were married for over 65 years. She was a member of Pine Grove Holiness Church. Edith was an excellent student in school and was able to skip a grade allowing her to graduate early. She taught herself the Peachtree Accounting System, and developed her own shorthand system. Using these self taught skills she worked as a secretary for C & B Foundry until she retired. Edith loved to read newspapers, books, etc. Her favorite author was Mary Higgins Clark. She love reading Readers Digest books and had many on shelves in her home. She was a very good cook. Her family loved her chicken and dressing, ham, homemade brownies and chocolate gravy which they ate with biscuits and bacon. For years, Edith did sewing for her family, making things like her daughter’s prom dresses and even her daughter’s wedding dress. She also did sewing and mending for the public, making extra money for her family. Edith enjoyed listening to southern gospel music as well as singing/leading songs at her church. She enjoyed listening to the Makameys, the Isaac’s and many other southern gospel groups. Edith is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Wayne Ledbetter; daughter, Brenda Marie Morrow (Isaac), and son, Michael Wayne Ledbetter (Anita). She also has two sisters Eva Jane White (Eli), Martha Esther Atchley (G.W.), five grandchildren, Melanie Mills, Jeremy Morrow, April Morrow, Michelle Ledbetter and Ashley Jones and six great grandchildren; Alexis Smalley, Luke Morrow, McKenzie Mills, Levi Morrow, Tristen Mills and Boyd Jones. Edith was preceded in death by her father, William Owen West; mother, Edna Olene West; brother, Charles Owen West (Toby); sister, Linda Carol Jones; granddaughter, Keri Allison Ledbetter. Services for Edith include a visitation at Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the services will be Brother Wayne Walls. Family members escorting Edith’s earthly body to its final resting place in Pine Grove Holiness Church Cemetery are: Jeremy Morrow, Luke Morrow, Levi Morrow, Tristen Mills, Jamie Jones, and Danny West. Honorary pallbearers: Boyd Jones, Brent Davis and Chris West. Arrangements entrusted to Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel
