Georgia Mae Gibson

With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Georgia Mae Gibson. Georgia Mae passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 99. Born and raised in the Union Grove community of Marshall County, Alabama, on December 3, 1926, Georgia was one of five daughters born to James Robert “Pete” Lewis and Bonnie Wynn King Lewis. She was the widow of James Paul Gibson, who passed away in May 2017. Georgia was a faithful, longtime member of Union Grove First Baptist Church. She was also a longtime employee of the Marshall County School System, serving at Union Grove School as a beloved “lunchroom lady.” Her teacake cookies were extremely popular with everyone in the community. She loved tending to her garden and flowers, but above all, she treasured her family. She was always there to support and encourage them. Georgia Mae is survived by her daughter, Paula Teal (Billy); daughter-in-law, Melanie Gibson Musick; grandchildren, Jimmy (Christy), Alan (Shivonne), Amanda (Clayton), and Paul (Tonia); and great-grandchildren, Mae (Chance), Emalee, Jake, Scarlett, Katie, Madison, Jaeden, Nick, Braxton, Emma, Ellis, and Gibson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gibson; parents, Pete and Bonnie Lewis; son, Tommy Paul Gibson; son-in-law, Carlton Parker; and sisters, Virginia Hackleman, Martha Harden, Mary Lohr, and Marion Brown, who joined her in death two hours later. Visitation for Georgia will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Union Grove First Baptist Church with pastor Greg Narrell officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Hood, Paul Parker, Clayton Gosselin, Jake Campbell, Tim Brown, and Scott Underwood. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Parker, Mike Harden, Pete Harden and Robert Conley. The family will accept flowers but also encourage donations to Union Grove First Baptist Church. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
