Mrs. Jean Marie Parker

Jean Marie Ransom Parker, age 92, passed away peacefully in her home with family beside her on February 25, 2023. We will miss her kind and fun-loving spirit. She was born July 1st, 1930, in Morgan County, the daughter of Robert Dewey and Ruby Wilson Ransom. She was married to Doris Clell Parker (D.C.), who preceded her in death on July 5, 1987. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a lifetime resident of Pine Ridge Community and a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She graduated from Union Hill High School in 1948 where she and Doris were voted "Most Beautiful" and "Most Handsome" by their Senior classmates. Her first job was at the Alabama Hosiery Mill in Decatur, Alabama, from 1948 through the 1950’s. She and Doris married in 1950 and he served in the Korean War. Jean also worked at Brown Engineering and SCI Inc., now Sanmina. She had many talents including woodcarving, oil painting, sewing and ceramics. Her greatest passions in life were spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and her pets. Because she lived near a church, many animals were abandoned and usually ended up at her home. If she couldn’t find a home for them, they lived out their lives at her home with an abundance of food and warm beds. Jean Marie loved children and supported many children’s charities, including St. Jude’s Hospital, UNESCO, and Alabama Baptist Children’s Home and Ministries, to name a few. She is survived by her four children, Bronwyn Parker Ribo (Don), Joel Parker, Robin Parker Smith (Cass), and Mark Parker, as well as two grandchildren, Maggie Smith Nelson (Peyton), and William Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doris, her sister, Janice Abercrombie, and brothers: Paul Ransom and Jon Ransom. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at 1:00 p.m., at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Union Grove, Alabama. Pallbearers are William Smith (Grandson), Doc Abercrombie, Phillip Parker, Kevin Parker, Robert Slaten and Danny Slaten. Honorary Pallbearers are Donny Parker, Tim Parker and Felix Maze.
