Mrs. Jeanette Townsend

Jeannette Harbin Townsend (70) went to be with her heavenly Father on October 21, 2021. Jeanette was born in Good Hope, Alabama on August 23, 1951. The epitome of a family first lady, she was a loving wife and mother. For most of her life she was a bedside nurse, showing all her patients the “servant’s heart” that she was so gifted with. After a lengthy nursing career, she retired to be the family caretaker. She spent years fully devoted to her family, caring for her husband of 47 years and her daughters. As a young lady, she was called to become a nurse. She was in the first graduating class of Good Hope High School. She then followed her calling and graduated St Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1973. She met the love her life and they started their life together in 1974 and were married on her 23rd birthday. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, devoted to her husband and her family. With lots of patience and love she raised four daughters Kelly, Kerry, Joni, and Jackie. She spent many days juggling sport schedules, homework, and making sure her family was well cared for and was joyful through it all. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years and cared for many of those in the community. Known as “JT” or the “energizer bunny” among her colleagues and friends. She was an avid and passionate sports fan. Many days she would sit and listen to sports radio. She also loved Southern gospel music and spent most of her Sunday mornings praising Jesus. She was faithful until the very end. Just a few months ago a family celebration was held at her home for her 70th birthday. It was such a sweet celebration of music, dancing, laughter, and sharing a lifetime full of memories. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Jackson and Dorothy Louise Harbin. She is survived by her husband John Townsend. Her daughters Kelly (Cody) Wheeler, Kerry Townsend, Joni Townsend, and Jackie (Clint) Shumate. One brother Doug (Randi) Harbin, one sister Jackie Gentry, and Grandchildren Harper and Nathan Shumate and Samuel and Noah Wheeler. Several beloved extended family. The family will welcome Guests for visitation Monday at Gilliam Springs Baptist Church in Arab, Alabama at 10:00am with a service celebrating her life at 11:00am. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Entrusted with Arrangements. Pallbearers are Sean Harbin, Seth Harbin, Luke Townsend, David Townsend, Charles Richard, Cody Hansen Honorary Pallbearer Nick Morris Lunch will be served for family and friends.
