Mr. Larry Randall Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. Larry Randall Johnson, age 75, of Arab, AL will be Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab. Brother Shannon O'Neal will be officiating. Visitation will be the evening before on Thursday, April 18, 2024 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the New Canaan Cemetery in Cullman County, AL. Pallbearers escorting Larry to his final resting place will be Steven Raney, Seth Darnell, Brent Ryan, Chad Raney, Steven Hanners, and Cliff Stone. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the family. Larry was born May 10, 1948 to Will Emmett Johnson and Willa Mae Morrow Johnson in Marshall County, AL. Sadly, Larry passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at his residence in Arab. He was a lifelong resident of the Arab community, a member of the New Canaan Baptist Church, a high school graduate and had earned his Associates Degree. His love of the ocean led him to enlist in the US Navy in 1967 at the age of 19. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served on the battleship USS Rowan (DD-782). He was deployed three (3) times to Vietnam in order to aid and give fire support to the US troops during the time of conflict. Larry was a workaholic and loved to be outside. He grew up working on the family cattle farm, riding his motorcycle, playing and coaching baseball. His love of the ocean continued to draw his interest which eventually led him to his hobby of fishing, especially deep sea fishing. He was employed as a Fabrication Manager for International Fire Protection in Huntsville, AL. After his retirement Larry became interested in painting by watching the legendary Bob Ross on PBS. He decided to try his hand at the skill of painting and became an accomplished artist. Most everyone he knew and loved was given an original “painting by Larry.” He and Virginia Ann Voyles Johnson have shared 53 years of marriage and are proud parents of three children. Larry lived a beautiful and meaningful life and will be greatly missed. Family members Larry leaves behind to cherish their memories include his wife, Virginia Johnson; daughters, Laurie Megin Layne Johnson and Kamuelia LeAnn Johnson Balint (Joey); son, Kevin Noel Johnson; grandsons, Alexander Kamden Balint and Aiden Joseph Flynn Balint; sister, Freida Gail Johnson Darnell (Brad) and Nella Ree Johnson Stone (Cliff); brother, Norman Wayne Johnson (Debbie); and several nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceding Larry in death include his parents, Will and Willa Mae Johnson; brother, LeWayne Johnson; grandparents, Claude and Carrie Kelly Johnson and Homer and Della Mae Parker Morrow.
