Mrs. Linda Joy Widner

Our dear mother, Linda Joy Widner, sadly passed away in her daughter and son-in-law’s home on October 14th, 2022, at the age of 73. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. Linda also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Arab, AL. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dalford RV Widner, parents- Joyce Irvine and Robert Nelson, and her sister Cynthia Rothschild. She is survived by her Daughter Stacy Ward Wilks (Bill), Daughter Jennifer Ward Neta (Itay), and stepson Allan Widner (Kim). Survived also by her siblings -John Nelson (Rebecca), Carol Tollefson (Tennis), Robert Nelson(Susan). Linda lived a full life helping others. When she moved with her children from California to Arab, Alabama in 1983, she began working at AmSouth Bank handling IRAs and new accounts. She then went to the Redstone Arsenal and worked as a Security Specialist at the Intelligence and Security Directorate before she retired early at 50 to spend time with her new grandkids and husband. Linda always had a camera in her hand and a smile on her face. She loved spending time with friends and volunteering at the Arab Senior Center. Capturing moments on camera and caring for people were her passion, with a card, copies of photos, or a pot of chicken and dumplings. She was a longtime member of the Marshall County Master Gardeners and loved anything that had to do with plants, flowers, and soil, often attending educational conferences and speeches and volunteering to make the community beautiful through gardening. She was passionate about traveling with her friends and family, supporting our Veterans and politics until the very end. The world will be a little darker without Linda’s bright spirit and light in it. Her generosity and kindness will be missed. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Jones Willingham, Benjamin Willingham, Isaac Neta, Kai Neta, Anna Widner, Adam Hays, and Makenzie Wilks Davidson (Cody). She also has many nieces and nephews and their children on the west coast that she loved dearly, and often any kids that needed a “Grandma” in their life. A Celebration of Life will be held at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel on November 13, 2022 with visitation with the family from 2:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m with services at 3:00 p.m. Please consider donating in Linda’s memory to Wounded Warriors, The Arab Public Library, Arab Senior Center or A New Leash on Life in Lieu of Flowers.
