Ms. Emily Foylea Wilkes McElroy

October 30, 1935 - April 27, 2022

Mrs. Emily Wilkes McElroy of Arab, Alabama passed away at Assisted Living of Arab on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the age of 86. Mrs. McElroy was born October 30, 1935 in Wagram, North Carolina. She moved from North Carolina to Arab in 1967. Mrs. McElroy was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. She took pride in being a good mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a great asset to the community as she was a charter member of the New Friendship Home Demonstration Club, NECCA member, faithful church member, AARP member, and involved with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Not only did Emily do clothing alternations for the community she also made numerous cheerleading uniforms, prom dresses, wedding gowns, and costumes for Arab Musical Theatre. She judged for many 4-H and school contest and volunteered for Vacation Bible Schools. She regularly won many first place ribbons for her sewing and crafts. Mrs. McElroy is survived by her daughters Debbie McElroy, Brenda King, and Kelly Parrish, her sister Bonnie Thomas; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. McElroy and her daughter Emily Jo Bowman. A visitation has been planned for Friday, April 29, 2022 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Bro. Tim Lynch officiating. Pallbearers will be Will Crenshaw, Eli Parker, Mike Thomas, Cameron Jones, Brian Jones and Taylor Sparks. Interment will be at New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
