Ms. Mary Lou Hyatt

November 10, 1934 - March 10, 2022

Mary Lou Norris Hyatt, 87, of Arab, Alabama, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday evening, March 10, 2022, at her residence in the Ruth Community. Mrs. Hyatt was born November 10, 1934 in Winston County, Alabama, the daughter of Oakley Blanchard (O. B.) Norris and Rhoda Mae Keeton Norris. She was a graduate of Arab High School, Class of 1952. She and her husband, Gerald Hyatt, were married for 63 years at the time of his death on March 16, 2015. While raising her three children, she was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her family and sewing for the public, as well as growing a huge vegetable garden. She also loved traveling, especially to the Smoky Mountains, but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends. After her children got older, she worked in quality control at Chrysler Corporation, taking a forced early retirement in 2000 due to becoming permanently disabled as a result of her sciatic nerve being severed during a hip replacement surgery, and was a member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by two sons, Anthony Hyatt (Shelia) and Phillip Hyatt, and one daughter, Melanie Hyatt Smith (Steve), all of Arab; six grandchildren, Joni Hyatt, Amy Hyatt Morgan (Jason), Brandon Hyatt (Amy), Jason Hyatt (Jennifer), Jennifer Smith Nava (Diego), and Russell Smith (Emily); and ten great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tatum, Tara and Tanner Hyatt, Baylee Hyatt, Brylee Hudgins, Holden Hyatt, Hannah, Ariana and Sofia Nava, with another great-grandson due in June; brother,Joe Norris (Barbara); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents O. B. and Rhoda Norris and siblings John Norris, Eunice Norris Kimbrell, and Dorothy (Dot) Norris Hyatt. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 12:00-1:30. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 at the Ruth/Mt. Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Brandon and Jason Hyatt and Russell Smith; grandson-in-law Jason Morgan; and nephews Tim Kimbrell and Daniel Hyatt. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandson-in-law Diego Nava, nephew David Hyatt, great-grandson Tucker Hyatt and special friend Jerry Whitley. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Directing
