Cathy was born January 24, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Myron Collins and the late and beloved Mary Collins. Cathy graduated from Valley High School, Louisville and attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she was in the Alpha Delta Phi sorority. Cathy graduated from Northwestern Connecticut Community College. In 1971, Cathy married the love of her life, William (Bill) P. Barker, and began their family in Indiana and moved to North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Connecticut as their family grew. In 2003, Cathy and Bill moved to Union Grove, AL where Cathy worked at BanCorp South in Arab until her retirement in 2013. A devout Christian, Cathy was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany – Guntersville. She was an officer of Arab Civitan, Marshall County Home Place, and Daughters of the King. She was a member of the Christian Coalition. Cathy thoroughly loved spending time sewing and quilting beautiful items for her family members. She had a passion for gardening as her entire family and neighbors continue to enjoy her beautiful flowers. As a result butterflies and hummingbirds grace her gardens, bringing a constant presence of love, family, beauty and peace. Her favorite movies are too extensive to list, but it better have a happy ending or else she wasn’t watching it. Never one to put the spotlight on herself, Cathy had a genuine interest in others, which was obvious by her warm and infectious smile and laughter. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother; Cathy loved spending time with her family and friends, and truly enjoyed the hijinks that husband, children, young grandchildren, and dogs produced without fail. Cathy is survived by her husband William Barker of 42 years; daughter, Amanda Futterleib and her husband David Futterleib; son, Beau Barker and his wife Cheri; son, Adam Barker and his wife Kellie; grandchildren, Max and Lily Futterleib; father, Myron Collins; brother, Steve Collins and his wife Kathy; nieces, Laurie and Kelly Collins; mother-in-law, Bonnie Barker; and a number of close friends. A memorial will be held at the Church of the Epiphany on 1101 Sunset Dr., Guntersville, AL 35976 on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm with the interment immediately following in the Memorial Garden. A celebration of Cathy’s life will take place immediately following the interment at the Woodall Commons. The family wishes to thank all of those who brought so much happiness and joy to Cathy’s life.
