Gail Odell Johnson

Mr. Gail Odell Johnson passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Marshall Medical Center North. Mr. Johnson, age 87, was born December 30, 1938 in Marshall County, Alabama to Odell Johnson and Gladys Lou Whitlock Johnson. He and wife, Joyce “Maxine” Burgett Johnson have shared over 69 years of married life creating a warm and loving home. He dedicated his professional career to construction, working as a skilled building contractor. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Corinth Church. Known for his sense of humor, Gail delighted in practical jokes and loved to playfully scare friends and family, and bringing lots of laughter to those around him. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, and fishing, all pastimes that reflected his love of the outdoors. He was a talented musician, and played the guitar, as well as most stringed instruments. He loved to share his music with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Johnson; daughters, Bonita Smith (Sonny), Martha Short (Wade), Janene Stinson (Kevin), Nana Baugh (Yancy), Dana Bullard (Jerry); twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother, Ricky Johnson (Regina); sisters, Betty Lou Feemster and Barbara Bright. Gail is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Lou Whitlock Johnson; father, Odell Johnson; grandson, Jeremy Goss; sisters, Billie Jo Weaver and Wanda Knott; brothers, Beamon Johnson, Buddy Johnson, Whalon Johnson and Jimmy Johnson. Services for Gail are planned for Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm with Brother Carl Cash and Adam Goss officiating. Family, friends and guests will meet for visitation at 12:00 noon until the service starts at 2:00. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Stanley Smith, Adam Goss, Chad Collins, Joseph Goss, Russell Baugh, Joshua Bullard and Wesley Baugh. Honorary pallbearers are Colton Smith, Connor Smith, Dakota Collins, Tyler Collins, Landon Goss, Judson Goss, Camden Goss, Will Baugh, Greyson Baugh, Jaxon Lathem, Cody Brooks, Luke Brooks, Ryder Whitaker Collins and Cody Cox. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel assisting the family with arrangements.
