Glenda Sue Hester

Glenda Sue Wilks Hester, 81, of Arab passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, October 31, 2025 at Marshall Medical Center North. She was born July 5, 1944 to Connie Thrasher Wilks and Andrew Jackson Wilks of the New Canaan Community. She will live on through her children who loved her dearly, in each of her grandchildren who absolutely adored her and in friends whose lives were touched by her generosity, humbleness, love and kindness. Sue loved being a mom but when she became “Granny”, she took a promotion role that she not only loved but made a promise to spoil not only her biological grandkids but all of her “adopted” ones as well. Granny Sue tended to adopt all of their friends as her own and truly loved each and every single one of them as her own. I don’t think any of the kid’s friends ever called her by her name, only Granny or Granny Sue. She was a great cook and loved fixing meals for the entire family especially on Sundays after church and on holidays. She was a very talented seamstress making most of their clothes when the kids were young as well as every Halloween costume for her kids and her grandkids. She was a member of Hebron Church of Christ since 1968 and cherished her faith and relationship with God. But her favorite “hobby” was sitting on the front porch each morning with the love of her life sharing coffee. Sue married Jimmy Dale Hester August 22, 1968. The two of them celebrated fifty- seven years of wedding bliss this year and genuinely loved one another more with each passing year. You did not see one of them without the other, they did everything together. They have always exhibited great moral character and undying faith, setting the best examples for their kids, grandkids, extended families and friends. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Dale Hester; sons: Jimmy Craig Hester and Brian Walter Hester; daughters: Briana Hester Knight (Shaun) and Melanie Lynn Hester; grandsons: Zachary Andrew Hester (Laura) and Nathan Kyle Neal; granddaughters: Kelsey Reagan Neal, Peyton Rae Hester and Madasyn Hope Williams; great-grandson: Andrew Hester; great-granddaughter: Faith-lynn Wilson; brother: Kenny Wilks (Jackie), many “adopted” grandkids, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Andy and Connie Wilks, brothers John L Wilks, Lynell Wilks, and Kermit Wilks, sisters Eulalia Bradley and Arbie Hinds, grandson William Jacob Hester and granddaughter McKenna Grace Knight. The family will gather at Hebron Church of Christ in Hulaco on Thursday, November 6, 2025 to celebrate her life. They will accept friends and loved ones from 10am to 12 pm for visitation with funeral services at 12pm with Brock Johnson officiating. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
