Peggy Evelyn Dugard Lackey

Peggy Evelyn Dugard Lackey went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of July 23, 2026. She was born on August 10, 1941 in Tupelo, Mississippi where she was raised, graduated high school, and earned her associate’s degree in office administration from Itawamba Junior College. She married the love of her life, Don Lackey, on September 1, 1962. They were married for nearly 61 years before his passing on July 11, 2023. She was a homemaker raising two sons, Greg and Jeff. Peggy also held several jobs after her boys were school age. These jobs included Teledyne Brown Engineering and several attorneys in the Huntsville, AL area where she served as an office administrator/assistant. Peggy was a faithful member of Arab First Baptist Church in Arab, AL. She had many friends and loved ones that adored her for her loving personality and giving nature. Peggy is survived by her youngest son Greg, her oldest son Jeff (Gwen), her grandsons Tyler Lackey (Brittany), Jesse Lackey (Lauren), Grant Lackey, Parker Lackey, Austin Lackey, Devin Stockton (Aidan), and Caden Stockton. She is also survived by two great grandsons Mason Lackey and Henry Stockton. She only missed the birth of the first ever great-granddaughter, Saylor Stockton, by a couple of weeks. Peggy is also survived by her niece, Karen Dugard Lawler (Al) whom she loved like a daughter/best friend. Peggy deeply loved all of her grandchildren and rarely ever missed one of their ballgames, wrestling matches, swim meets, tennis tournaments, or plays/musicals. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Don Lackey, her parents Luke and Sena Dugard, a brother Al (Jo Anne), and infant brother Luke Elton. Services will be Monday, July 27, 2026 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with the funeral service following at 2:00pm. Interment will be in Gilliam Springs Cemetery. Chosen pallbearers will be: Grant Lackey, Parker Lackey, Austin Lackey, Tyler Lackey, Jesse Lackey, and Caden Stockton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Lackey, Devin Stockton, and Henry Stockton. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel are assisting with arrangements. The family would like to thank her friends, church friends, and Park Place neighbors who helped her sons, Jeff and Greg, tend to her during the last year of her life that was filled with physical struggles and vascular dementia. Special thanks go out to her dear friends, Lurlene Gibbs, Melba Martin, Gail Weaver, and Don and Debbie Hales for their never-ending help during the last couple of years of her life. Peggy will be missed dearly by her family and friends, but she is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is also re-united with her beloved husband, Don.
